Dr. Sarath Perera

Dr. W. L. D. S. G. Perera is a senior academic and educational leader with over 35 years of distinguished experience in primary education, teacher education, and curriculum development in Sri Lanka. His academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts degree, which was awarded as a B.A. (Honours) degree upon obtaining a Second Class, from the University of Peradeniya in 1985. He subsequently earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Merit) in 1993 and a Master of Education in 1995 from the University of Colombo. Extending his academic exposure internationally, he completed a Master of Education in Educational Leadership in 1998 and a Doctor of Education in 2004 at the University of Wollongong, Australia.
Dr. Perera currently serves as Dean of the Faculty of Education and Senior Lecturer (Grade I) at Lyceum Campus. His administrative and academic leadership includes service as Dean at the National Colleges of Education in Siyane and Vavuniya, senior lecturing roles at the University of Peradeniya, and academic and consultancy roles at the Open University of Sri Lanka. He also served as a National Consultant for Curriculum Development in Psychology and Sociology under the Teacher Support and Training Development (TSTD) Project of the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GIZ).
His major achievements include the development of diploma and degree programmes in early childhood education, primary education, English language teaching, mathematics, science, and professional skills. Dr. Perera has made significant contributions to institutional development through curriculum design, academic quality assurance, examination evaluation, and educational material development.
His research interests encompass teacher competencies, primary and teacher education, curriculum studies, and education–workforce linkages, with scholarly contributions presented at reputed international conferences.
