Ms. Chapa Welagedara is a Senior Lecturer (Grade II) in the Faculty of Education at Lyceum Campus, with over 30 years of experience in English language teaching, curriculum development, and teacher education. Her professional journey spans every tier of Sri Lanka’s education system—from classroom practice to national-level leadership—shaping a strong commitment to advancing English language education with quality, relevance, and purpose.
Prior to joining Lyceum Campus, Ms. Welagedara served at the National Institute of Education (NIE) for nearly a decade, where she held several key leadership roles, including Head of the Department of English, National Coordinator of the Regional English Support Centres, and Coordinator and permanent Lecturer of the Diploma in Teaching English as a Second Language (Dip/TESL). She also functioned as a national-level teacher trainer, lead curriculum developer, and lead researcher. In these capacities, she led major curriculum and assessment reforms, coordinated international collaborations, supervised research initiatives, and made substantial contributions to national teacher capacity-building efforts.
At Lyceum Campus, Ms. Welagedara lectures in BEd and Diploma programmes, supervises undergraduate research, and leads the PGDE Curriculum Development Committee, while also serving as a member of the Campus Quality Assurance Cell. Her professional expertise is further enriched through participation in several international training programmes in the USA, Malaysia, India, and Morocco, including the prestigious International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).
As a researcher, presenter, and educational content developer, Ms. Welagedara continues to advocate for modern, inclusive, and globally aligned approaches to English language education in Sri Lanka.
