Dr. Joachim Perera is a Senior Academic in Anatomy and Medical Education with over four decades of experience in undergraduate and postgraduate health sciences education, including Biomedical Science and Allied Health programmes. He holds an MBBS and MS from the University of Colombo and a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, and is a Fellow of the College of Surgeons of Sri Lanka.
Dr. Perera has served as an Associate Professor of Anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, and later at the International Medical University (IMU), Malaysia, where he contributed extensively to medical, dental, biomedical, and allied health education. His academic leadership roles include Head of the Department of Anatomy, Director of Medical Education Development, module coordination, and quality assurance leadership in outcome-based curricula.
His scholarly interests focus on anatomy education, curriculum development, assessment strategies, and faculty development, with multiple peer-reviewed publications in medical education and anatomical sciences. Dr. Perera is widely recognized for his contribution to learner-centred education, problem-based learning, and faculty training across Sri Lanka and the region.
