The programme's ultimate outcome is to produce a full-fledged primary teacher with versatile characteristics and the professional competencies needed to advance the field of primary education.
Designed by Lyceum Campus and structured in line with the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework (SLQF), the degree incorporates courses across five categories, namely, Professional Studies (PS), Academic Studies (AS), Foundation Studies (FS), Elective Studies (ES) and Field Experience (FE), amounting to 130 credits in total across 8 semesters. This structure ensures graduates leave with a balance of subject knowledge, teaching methodology, educational theory, and genuine classroom experience, rather than academic study alone.

Entry Requirements Bachelor of Education(Hons) in Primary Education Programme
- A simple (S) pass for Sinhala/Tamil at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination
- National / Cambridge / EDEXCEL A/L - 3 passes, any stream at same sitting
- Mandatory Aptitude Test (English + IQ)
*This is a full Honours degree rather than a diploma, entry is more competitive than Lyceum Campus's Teacher Development Diplomas. Applicants without the required A/Level passes may want to consider the Diploma in Primary School Teaching as an alternative starting point.
Programme Structure: Five Course Categories
In line with the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework (SLQF), the curriculum is organised into five course categories that run across the 8 semesters:
- Professional Studies (PS): Teaching methodology, curriculum practices, assessment for learning, classroom management, and reflective teaching practice specific to the primary classroom
- Academic Studies (AS): Subject knowledge in the areas primary teachers deliver, including language studies (English, Sinhala, Tamil), primary mathematics, environmental studies (history, geography, civic education), and basic science
- Foundation Studies (FS): The philosophical, psychological, and sociological foundations of primary education, alongside counselling in primary schools and comparative studies in education
- Elective Studies (ES): Optional modules including Religious Studies (Buddhism, Roman Catholicism, Christianity, Hinduism, or Islam - students select one), a second language (Sinhala or Tamil), and other specialisations such as Early Childhood Education or Vocational and Non-Formal Education
- Field Experience (FE): Structured teaching practice, from early school observation in Semester 3 through to Micro Teaching, Teaching Practicum I and II, and a substantial final Teaching Practicum III (8 credits) in Semester 8
