What Is the Lyceum Global Foundation Programme?
Lyceum Global Foundation (LGF) Program
The Lyceum Global Foundation Programme is a 10-month, TVEC-recognised pre-university qualification that takes O/Level leavers directly into the first year of a bachelor's degree, without going through A/Levels first. It's built for two fairly different groups of students, and it's worth being clear about which one you fall into.
The first group is students who've just finished O/Levels and don't want to spend two more years working toward an A/Level exam before they can even apply to a degree. For them, the foundation year does the same job A/Levels does: it prepares you academically for university-level study, but in under a year, with intakes in March, July, and September.
The second group is students who've already sat their A/Levels and didn't get the results they needed for the degree they wanted. Rather than repeating the A/Level year, which is common in Sri Lanka but costly in time, a foundation programme offers a second route into the same kind of bachelor's degree, often faster than a resit would take.
Both groups end up in the same place: first year of a bachelor's degree, at one of Lyceum's partner universities in Australia, the UK, New Zealand, Malaysia, Canada or here in Sri Lanka.
Foundation Programme or A/Levels: What's the Real Difference?
Parents and students weighing this up usually want the same three answers: how long it takes, what happens if things don't go to plan, and whether the degree at the end is treated the same either way. Here's the straightforward comparison.
| Lyceum Global Foundation | A/Levels | |
|---|---|---|
| Duration | 10 months | 2 years, plus results wait |
| Entry requirement | 4 credit passes at O/Level (incl. Maths & English) | 6+ passes at O/Level, subject-stream dependent |
| Intakes | March, July & September | Local school year cycle |
| Leads to | Year 1 of a bachelor's degree | University entrance exam / competitive placement |
| Best suited to | Students who want a direct, faster route to a degree, or a second route in after a difficult A/Level result | Students aiming for a specific state university course or a scholarship requiring the A/Level qualification |
| Recognition | TVEC-recognised, partner-university progression | Recognised by all universities, local and foreign |
Neither route is objectively "better." They solve different problems. A/Levels remain the right choice for a student who is confident about sitting a competitive local university placement exam. A foundation year makes more sense for a student who wants a quicker, more direct path into a degree, or who needs a credible alternative after an A/Level result that didn't go their way.

Program Details, Entry Requirements, and Progression
Program Details, Entry Requirements, and Progression
Here's exactly what the programme involves, month by month and grade by grade, so there's no guesswork before you apply. A quick note on entry requirements, since this is where most questions come in: if you sat the Cambridge or Edexcel O/Level syllabus, you'll need at least four 'C' grades, including a pass in Mathematics and a 'D' in English. If you sat the local G.C.E. (National) O/Level, the requirement is four 'C' grades, including at least a pass in Mathematics and a 'C' in English. Both routes lead into exactly the same foundation programme and the same degree progression; the entry requirement is simply matched to the syllabus you studied.

What Happens After You Complete the Programme?
Completing the Lyceum Global Foundation Programme leads directly into the first year of a bachelor's degree. You don't sit another entrance exam or repeat material you've already covered. Depending on the subject stream you choose (Business, Science, Information Technology, or Engineering), progression is available to partner universities in Australia, the UK, New Zealand, Malaysia and Canada, as well as to continuing your full degree here in Sri Lanka.
Lyceum Campus's broader international partner network includes institutions such as Deakin University in Australia and UWE Bristol in the UK, part of the same academic ecosystem your foundation year is designed to prepare you for, whether you continue your degree on campus in Colombo or move abroad for the remaining years of study.
For families weighing up the cost of an overseas degree, this structure is usually the more affordable route into a foreign qualification: a Sri Lankan based foundation year costs a fraction of a year spent studying abroad, while still counting toward the same internationally recognised degree.

Scholarships for the Foundation Programme
Lyceum Campus offers an Academic Merit Scholarship on the Global Foundation Programme, discounted directly from the total tuition fee. To qualify, students need an 'A' grade in both prerequisite subjects, Mathematics and English. Students who sat the Edexcel syllabus need 7 points or above in each subject instead.
- 7 A's: 50% off tuition
- 3 A's: 30% off tuition
- 2 A's: 20% off tuition
Conditions apply, and the exact criteria are confirmed at the point of application, but for a strong O/Level result, this can meaningfully change the cost of the fastest route into a bachelor's degree available in Sri Lanka.
