The UWE Bristol University Pathway Programmes at Lyceum Campus are early childhood education pathways developed in collaboration with the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol, UK. There are two programmes available: the Pearson BTEC HND in Early Childhood Education and Care (2+1 pathway) and the Diploma in Early Childhood Development Education (1+2 pathway). Both lead to a BA (Hons) at UWE Bristol.

The 2+1 Pathway involves completing the Pearson BTEC HND in Early Childhood Education and Care over 18 months at Lyceum Campus in Sri Lanka, then transferring into the final year (top-up year) of the BA (Hons) Early Years Education at UWE Bristol, UK. Students complete the majority of their studies locally before finishing their UK degree in Bristol.

The 1+2 Pathway involves completing the Diploma in Early Childhood Development Education over 12 months at Lyceum Campus in Sri Lanka, then progressing to UWE Bristol for 2 years to complete the BA (Hons) in Early Childhood. This pathway is ideal for students who want to move to a UK university environment earlier in their studies.

For the Pearson BTEC HND in Early Childhood Education and Care, applicants need 2 passes at A/Level or a recognised Foundation or Diploma, plus a B pass in O/Level English. For the Diploma in Early Childhood Development Education, applicants need 4 O/Level passes including Mathematics and a B pass in English, with 2 A/Level passes recommended.

Students gain substantial practical experience. The BTEC HND in Early Childhood Education and Care includes a total work placement of 525 hours, conducted in real early childhood settings. The Diploma in Early Childhood Development Education includes internships, field placements, and a dedicated Teaching Practicum component.

Yes. The Diploma in Early Childhood Development Education is approved by TVEC (Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission) and is equivalent to NVQ Level 4. It is awarded by Lyceum Campus and provides both national recognition in Sri Lanka and a clear progression pathway to UWE Bristol, UK.

The BTEC HND in Early Childhood Education and Care is delivered on Saturdays physically at Lyceum Campus and on Sundays online. The Diploma in Early Childhood Development Education is held on Saturdays only. Both programmes emphasise practical, hands-on learning alongside theoretical content.

The BTEC HND covers modules including Play and Learning in Early Childhood, Protecting Children in Early Education and Care Environments, Promoting Inclusive Early Education, Outdoor Play and Learning, and Advanced Practice in Safeguarding and Child Protection. The Diploma covers child development, curriculum planning, behaviour management, English communication, health safety and nutrition, and Teaching Practicum.
