Kumudu Wijewardena is an Emeritus Professor of Community Medicine and a highly respected academic with extensive contributions to public health, research, and higher education in Sri Lanka. She served as Professor of Community Medicine at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura from 1998 to 2019 and was the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies from 2003 to 2009.
Professor Wijewardena holds an MD in Community Medicine along with qualifications in statistics, healthcare planning, and advanced epidemiology. She currently serves as a consultant to the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka and continues to contribute to academic and research development.
Her research focuses on non-communicable diseases, gender-based violence, and public health among vulnerable populations. With over 80 publications in internationally recognized journals, she is widely acknowledged for her contributions to evidence-based health research and policy development.
Professor Wijewardena has also held several national and international leadership roles, including co-chairing the Gender Equality and Equity Committee of the University Grants Commission and contributing to global research initiatives. Her work continues to influence public health practice, education, and policy both in Sri Lanka and internationally.
