Graduated as an Architect from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka and had competed the Post Graduate Degree also from the same University and became a Chartered Architect. Completed the Post Graduate Degree in Archaeological Heritage Management in the University of York, UK by obtaining a British Council Scholarship and undergone professional training in the Fields of Stone Conservation in Venice - Italy by obtaining a UNESCO Scholarship, Wood Conservation in Norway by obtaining a UNESCO Scholarship, Architectural Conservation in ICCROM- Rome, by obtaining a UNESCO Scholarship, Tourism Development in Singapore by obtaining a Scholarship offered by the Government of Singapore, and Post Graduate Diploma in Heritage Management in IHS, Netherlands by obtaining a Scholarship offered by the Government of Netherlands.
Holds the posts of Past President of the Sri Lanka Council of Architects, President, ICOMOS Sri Lanka. and Past Vice President of the Organization for Professional Associations of Sri Lanka. Is a fellow member of the Sri Lanka Council of Archaeologists, Associate Member of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects, Member of the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science and a Life Member of the Organization for Professional Associations of Sri Lanka.
Began the carrier as a Heritage Manger in 1981 by joining the UNESCO-Sri Lanka Cultural Triangle programme managed by the Central Cultural Fund as an Architect and worked 21 years as a Resident Architect, Project Manager, Assistant Director (Administration & Development), Deputy Director (Development) and Director Development. Served as the Director Conservation of the Projects of the Central Cultural Fund namely – Alahana Parivena, Maha Vihara and Jetavana Vihara. Had served as the Acting Director General of Archaeology for 2 years and 7 months.
Joined the University of Sri Jayewardenepura as a Senior Lecturer in 2002 and retired from post of Professor in Archaeology on the 03rd January 2022 and currently serves as a Senior Consultant to the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
Had served as the Head of the Department of History and Archaeology and the Department of Engineering Technology and as the Founder Dean of the Faculty of Technology. Also has served as the Director of the Operational Technical Secretariat of the World Bank Project of Higher Education for Twenty first Century, Coordinator of the Establishment of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Director of the 2011 US Ambassadors Grant Project of Galle and Director of the 2013 and 2015 US Ambassadors Grant Project of Rajagala, Conservation Director of Rajagala Project and Conservation Consultant Architect of the Conservation of Ancient Dutch Fort of Jaffna.
Has commenced the academic carrier in 1996 as a Visiting Lecturer in the University of Moratuwa and has continued teaching for Undergraduate and Post Graduate Students of the Universities of Peradeniya, Kelaniya, Ruhuna and Rajarata, Post Graduate Institute of Archaeology, Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) and Colombo School of Architecture (CSA).
Has served as a Chairman/Member of the committee appointed by the University of Sri Jayewardenepura for the preparation of the proposals for the IRQUE and HETC World Bank Projects. Has served as the member of the committees appointed by the University of Sri Jayewardenepura for the preparation of building proposals for the Faculties of Technology, Medical Sciences, Management Studies and Commerce and Applied Sciences. Was the Chairman of the preparation of the Master Plan for the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Has designed and supervised construction of buildings for the Faculties of Medical Sciences, Management Studies and Commerce, Applied Sciences of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
Conducted several Archaeological Impact Assessment (AIA) Surveys, served as a professional member of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Survey teams, Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) survey teams and Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEA) survey teams. Severed as a Chairman/Member of several Procurement Committees and Chairman/Member of several Technical Evaluation Committees in the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and other Government Institutions. Has served as the Chairman of the Evaluation Committee of the Application submitted by private institution in obtaining Degree Awarding Statues from the Ministry of Higher Education. Has served as the Chairman of the dispute resolution committees of the building projects in the Universities of Sri Jayewardenepura, Colombo and the Post Graduate Institute of Archaeology.
Has attended several International Conferences, Seminars and Workshops as a resource person and a participant and submitted several papers. Published several articles in international and national books and journals and also published publications on conservation and archeology. The proposals prepared for the Management and Tourism Management of the World Heritage Site of Galle has been accepted by UNESCO.
Processes 41 years of practical experience on the Management of Heritage in Sri Lanka and 26 years of Academic Teaching Experience.
