Mohan Lal Grero completed his graduation in 1980 with an Honours Degree in Engineering from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. Mohan Lal Grero obtained the Executive Diploma in Business Administration (EDBA) from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He obtained his PhD in Education from University of Aldersgate, Graduate Studies Division, Singapore
Apart from academic and literary interests, Grero showed interest and skill in Aviation and SCUBA Diving. He obtained his Pilot license in 1986. Back-slash degree in Self Defense.
On the 14th of June 1993, Mohan Lal Grero took another giant step towards the education by initiating the Lyceum International School. At a time when there were major concerns over the high cost in attending such schools, Mohan Lal Grero undertook the onerous task of introducing education in the English medium at an affordable rate,within the socio-cultural environment of Sri Lanka. Today, Lyceum International School, has the parent school with 7 branch schools and 10 leaf schools with more than 22,400 students on board.
As an eminent educationist, who has traveled widely overseas explicitly for the purpose of studying systems of education overseas, he has acquired & extensive knowledge in methods & systems of education in other countries
In 2004, Mohan Lal Grero entered active politics and was elected as a member of the Western Province, Provincial Council in 2008
In 2009, he got elected to the parliament of Sri Lanka. Consequently, he assumed duties as the Monitoring M. P. of the Ministry of Education in 2011 & was appointed as the Monitoring M.P for the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skills Development on in 2012. He was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Education and Monitoring Member of Parliament of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skills Development in 2013.
- Worked towards establishing a National Education Policy
- Introduced the Technology Stream into the G.C.E. (A.L.) curriculum
- Initiated the Project of Developing 1000 Secondary Schools and 5000 Primary Schools island wide.
- Worked towards integrating English Listening and Speaking components in to the National Examination System
Appointed as the State Minister of Higher Education in 2015.
- Worked towards establishing Quality Assurance and Accreditation Council.
- In 2017 Mohan Lal Grero was appointed as the State Minister of Higher Education and State Minister of Cultural Affairs.
In the year 2007, Mohan Lal Grero was awarded the Sri Lankan Entrepreneur of the Year 2007 Silver Award for the Service Sector (External Category- Western Province).
