Dr. Karunaratne is a highly accomplished academic and industry professional in the field of Biomedical Engineering and HealthTech, with over 12 years of experience spanning research, higher education, and technology-driven entrepreneurship. He currently serves as a Research Officer in Biomedical Engineering at Swansea University (UK)and holds senior industry leadership roles as Chief Science and Innovation Officer at VitalPro Pvt Ltd and Chief Technology Officer at Bcan Solutions Pvt Ltd. 

He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with both Engineers Australia and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (UK), and holds an MEng and PhD in Biomedical Engineering and Materials Science from Queen Mary University of London. Dr. Karunaratne has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications and holds three patents, with research expertise in biomechanics, biomaterials, wearable technology, mechanobiology, and medical device innovation. His work spans the full product lifecycle—from concept development and R&D to clinical validation, regulatory compliance, and international commercialization. 
 
In addition to his academic credentials, Dr. Karunaratne maintains strong global  
London and the University of Moratuwa, contributing to the NIHR-funded iProtect Global academic and research links. He serves as a Visiting Scholar and Research Supervisor at Imperial College Health research programme. He is also an experienced educator, currently serving as a Senior Visiting Lecturer at institutions including Curtin University Colombo, Next Campus Sri Lanka, and ICBT Campus.
